Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

The Volcano-ringed Lago de Atitlan is situated in the Highlands of Guatemala.  Here the traditional values and customs of the indigenous peoples are strongest.  Maya dialects are the first language and Spanish a distant second.  The lake is surrounded by small villages and the volcanoes are a spectacular backdrop, one could happily disappear here for while.

We spent a couple of days on the lake at such a beautiful place, where the food was ridiculously delicious, the view breathtaking and the tranquility in the air contagious.
