Beveridge Reef, South Pacific

Pic of T R I B E's hulls anchored in four feet on the sandy shelf.
Visibility just out of this world!
Surrounded by the deep blue Pacific Ocean, Beveridge Reef is just that, a semi circular reef, no land insight, not even one palm tree.  No man's land.

The waves crashing over the reef is what first grabs ones attention.  This reef does have an entrance which allows yachts to anchor inside of it.
An aerial view of Beveridge Reef.
The entrance pass is on the left there.
The dark blue center has a general depth of 30 feet,
while the light blue between 4 and 8 feet.
At around 8am we entered the pass and picked our way around the coral heads to the South East corner where we dropped anchor in four feet of water, right on the sandy shelf that runs around the inside of the reef.  The electric aquamarine color of the water here engulfed my vision and held me captive for the longest time..  my photo's convey at least a fragment of it, imagine being immersed in it!
A storm brewing and heading our way...

Sasch and Rourke
Rourke on the bowsprit as we made our way around the sandy shelf to the North East side
We dived for lobster on the reef at low tide and true to form, Chris and Rourke grabbed nine of them in less than an hour.
The Lobster's hide out in the holes on the reef and one has to stick your head right in and grab them.  It had been a good couple of months since we had eaten lobster and my mouth was watering already.  We barbecued them in a garlic butter sauce and got stuck in.
even the lobsters here were blue
 hues of blues

Skyla, Layla and Rourke, the water here is irresistible
Rourke, Layla, Chris, Sky and Sascha a thousand miles from anywhere...
The coral heads are clearly visible
After a couple of days here, snorkeling, feasting on lobster and floating around in the blue we took off in the direction of The Kingdom of Tonga. Our spinnaker flew once again with those easterly trade winds we love so much…see you there!

  3. Love your blog and adventures. My little family of 4 are about to embark on our own adventure. We are slated to leave wonderful Denver, CO to move to Miami in June. You have influenced us to consider purchasing a Leopard over a Lagoon. We are inexperienced sailors but are jumping in with both feet. Would you be open to trading emails to lend advise?
