Hurricane Hole

T R I B E has the Navy stack pack, next to the yellow one.  This is the Marina we will be at for Hurricane Season
So here we are up the Rio Dulce.  It is hurricane season out here in the Caribbean and we sailed up this river to find a safe place to wait it out.  This season started early with quite a few named storms already hitting the Caribbean so we are happy to be out of their destructive path, tropical storm Ernesto is carving its path across the Caribbean as we speak.

The Atlantic Hurricane season begins the 1 June and ends 30 November with these lows developing off the West African Coast, moving across the Atlantic, developing into tropical storms and hurricanes that hit the Caribbean and the United States.  We are tucked away in Central America some 30 miles up the Rio Dulce,  a safe hurricane hole.

The Marina pool is a life saver in this tropical heat, temperatures average between 30 to 40 degrees celsius here every day.
T R I B E in the catamaran line up.  It is very sociable here, French, Spanish, American, Australian and South African sailing families all waiting out the hurricane season and then heading down to the Panama and through the Pacific like us.
Local fishermen, amazing how they balance in their narrow kayukas (name given to boats Indians/Mayans carve out of trees)

Rourke earning some cash by making Turks Head knots
which indicate midships on the helm for sailors
Neat job!
Skyla making hair wraps for the ladies with shells, beads and sea glass
Sky and Rourke SUP-ing on the Rio
Fresh Strawberry juice order of the day
Casa Guatemala Orphanage putting on their play Pocahontas under the bridge in the town of Fronturas

The children from the orphanage with their teacher.
A Bird sanctuary right off our bow
Welcome to readers in Panama, we will be heading your way soon!
