Same girl, different island...

When you guys think of sailing in and around tropical islands, these are them.  These islands are literally small enough to walk around in 10 min, white beaches and palm trees with hammocks swaying in the island breeze, surrounded by coral reefs and turquoise clear water.

Queen Cay
Layla, my little island girl
This is a great cruising ground as these cays are all within sight of one another and one can hop down the chain by doing 10 to 15 miles a day in calm waters.

Leaving Glover to stern we sailed 17 miles further south to Queen Cay Entrance to enter the reef line which is home to hundreds of cays of the coast of Belize.

Our first stop in Queen cays, 3 little gems lying within swimming distance of one another.  We anchored in between the 2 southern most islands. The island to our stern with 11 palm trees on it was chosen for our braai/barbeque on the beach.

Deserted no more!

The next day went snorkeling around the two cays north of us.  We were rewarded for our effort and swam with 2 Spotted Eagle Rays, Sharks and numerous colorful fish, the kids were delighted.  A forest of sea fans were swaying in the current and the brain coral heads popped up everywhere.

After Queens we sailed over to Hatchet Cay, a private island with resort and restaurant, we took a look around, had a sundowner and caught up on some internet.

Two days later we sailed down along the inside of the reef wall to Ranguan Cay.  If you are looking for a place to get away from it all, try this place, you won't be disappointed!

Next stop, Rio Dulce, Guatemala.          A hearty welcome to readers in India!

  1. Sascha, I don't exactly remember how I found your blog. I think I Googled the Berry Islands and found it! At any rate, I live in Ft. Lauderdale, am 60 years old, and am having an absolutely wonderful time seeing your beautiful posts! What a healthy, lovely family you have! When I was younger, growing up in South Florida, we did a lot of Island Hopping, mostly in the Bahamas and the Florida Keys. Seeing your experiences brings back many great, and sometimes scary times when all we had was a radio directional finder and charts to find our way! What lucky children you have! And I suppose you'd say what lucky parents you are! I can't wait for the next update!
