Glovers Reef off the coast of Belize

Sailing south down the leeward shore of Lighthouse Reef we hopped 15 miles over to Glovers Reef.  The name Glover was derived from an English buccaneer, John Glover who made the cays his base in the 1700's.  Glover's Reef is the most southern of Belize's offshore atolls.

This oval-shaped atoll is surrounded by an incredible wall of living coral.  The lagoon within Glover's Reef has an average depth of 50 to 75 feet with over 600 coral heads rising to the surface.

We entered through the Southern Pass and made our way round to anchor off the 2 small islands of Manta Reef and Marisol Resorts.  As paradise resorts go, there were a couple of beach bungalows and a restaurant bar out over the water.  We spent a couple of days here.
