Bahamas

Looking for the Islands

Today we sailed from Miami, across the Gulf Stream to the Bimini Islands in the Bahamas.

Lunch with Phil and Tim at Monty's Raw Bar, just before we left Miami

Rourke, our water taxi driver, he is loving the freedom and the responsibility

The crossing of the Gulf Stream can be very treacherous, one has to time it so the wind is coming out of the south, the same direction as the Gulf Stream which runs 4 knots at its strongest point.

Layla, Sky and Rourke

We had the perfect wind, 15 to 18knots on the starboard beam, put up the main sail and the genoa and were sailing along at 8-9knots, we made the crossing in 5 and half hours!  Very exciting to spot the Islands, Land Ahoy!

Can you feel the excitement?

The ocean is three different shades here, royal blue, sea green and aqua marine.  Most places super shallow, with coral heads popping up everywhere! They say one runs aground at least once whilst cruising the Bahamas, eek!

We pulled in to Alice Town in North Bimini and are along side at Browns Marina… time to explore…

How clear is this water!

Skyla about to swim with the fishies and the rays, they are HUGE!

Rourke found a treasure under the sea

Local lobster diver, they sell for lobster for 30 US dollars a kilo!

Last but not least, welcome to readers in Dominica!

Sometimes, just like now I wonder if I'm the right planet... or at least on the right blog.. Not that I know what I'm talking about of course...

Once more... Awesome to follow your journey, and your pictures express more than thousand words... We do have waters very close to this here on Cyprus as well (Nissi Bay)... just saying'... :)

Stay safe and clear in the shallow waters, this boat is too nice to have scratches...
