Beaufort NC to Cape Fear NC

Layla on the bow

Much excitement onboard as we head out into the ocean.

They say those who succumb to seasickness are those who are afraid of not being in control.  Well T R I B E seems to be loaded with control freaks then, but not to worry, the seasickness only lasts for the first 24 to 48hrs, right?   Luckily for us, Chris has sea water in his veins.

Sunset Beaufort, night before we left

We said farewell to Beaufort and are sailing down the east coast as far as Cape Fear.  We will wait there for the next weather window.  This time of the year one only gets a day or two, here and there, with good weather.  It seems the dolphins did not want us to depart and so accompanied us through most of the night, phosphorescence gleaming off their agile bodies as they dashed about. We left at 3pm and have sailed 120 nautical miles through the night doing an average of 6.5 knots.

Rourke and Layla

Now just rounded Frying Pan Shoals and should be arriving at Cape Fear in 2 hours.  Rourke pulled his first watch of 2hrs this morning, feeling very pleased with himself at having the added responsibility.  Sky is up and at it, making breakfast for all.  Layla is still man down, but seems perkier, giving us the thumbs up every time we pass her, so yes, 24hrs it is then!

Breakfast!

P.S.  Wifi is intermittent while on the go, promise to blog at every opportunity though...

  1. Greetings Smith Family!! Wow! Im in awe of all the beautiful pictures you have taken Sascha! I have lived around here all my life and the sunset at Beaufort blew me away. Seeing all of the pics you post of everyone on your daily journey makes me feel as if I am there with you guys. I ask Steve about your progress everyday. I know my brother and he really appreciates when Chris calls to update him on the performance of all the systems and the boat in general. He just loves that kind of stuff as I am sure you have figured out by now. :) I am very excited for all of you as you continue south knowing warm weather is soon ahead. I just know seeing and hearing what Skyla, Rourke and Layla experience daily is a constant source of Joy! Warm Thoughts!!! James
