An Epic Journey

Hello everyone, it's been a busy while.  Welcome to the readers who've joined us from Qatar, Antigua and Barbuda, Honduras, Bahrain, Ukraine, Japan, Thailand, Poland and Namibia!  Happy to have you aboard.

Waiting for the chicken bus in the heat of the day.  Fronturas, Guatemala.
We managed to fit it all into a taxi from bus terminal to airport in Honduras, San Pedro Sula
Sky and Layla looking out of the plane over New York City
Traveling with kids at the best of times can be trying.  We left Guatemala on a chicken bus, it's arrival was delayed by two hours, not a good start.  Catching buses in Central America is a hot sticky job, add 3 kids, 9 suitcases, 5 backpacks and 2 border crossings to the mix and it all just gets bumped up a notch, did I mention the mosquito's.  After waiting for 4 hours (the bus routes were blocked due to riots) under a hot tin roof for our second bus, we started dreading the rest of the journey, 2 buses, 5 flights across 5 countries.
As it turned out, our kids were little troopers, nothing like a bit of team work to keep things running smoothly.

We stopped in New York for 4 days to visit family, see the sights and soak in some culture.  It was a busy four days, non stop walking, museums, yellow cabbing, landmark sights and metro's.  New York cabbies rock, each one has their own story as to how they ended up driving a cab in NY, you just have to ask, they were friendly and helpful...
Layla, Rourke and Skyla, excited to experience New York

Yellow Cabs 'for Africa'.  Chris had to find one to fit us and our luggage, this is not Honduras where they just tie the trunk closed with bags hanging out, this is America!

Our journey from Guatemala to time in South Africa has been a balance between joy and despair, everything from time with family, friends and feasts, to funerals and farewells.

The first 10 days in Cape Town were spent in the home of a friend who was abroad, the view from here never gets boring, a great introduction back into civilization and a bit of night life in the city.  The children and I resumed school in the mornings and started longboarding in the afternoons, while Chris went off to work to check on our business.
