Livingston, Guatemala

Livingston stands where the Rio Dulce opens out into the Bahai de Amatique (Honduras Bay).  To reach Livingston one has to sail across a shallow bar (of sand), time it right with the high tide, which gives you an extra 1.5ft of depth, at one stage our depth sounder showed zero below keel, just making it we cruised through and dropped our anchor off Livingston.

Unconnected by road from the rest of the country, boat transportation is logically quite good here.  The local people include the Garifuna (Black Carib) and the indigenous Q'eqchi' Maya - who have their own community a kilometer or so upriver from the main dock.




Checking in here took us about 2 hours of a walk-a-bout town which was colorful, tasting local Guatemalan coffee, ice cream and fruit.  After tying up at the main dock one enters the main street Calle Principal, which starts at the bottom of a hill.

    Hello Tribe,
    I saw you post on the Leopard FB page and I had a look at your blog. We are a family of 4 sailing on a Leopard 46 (S/V Living). We have left Fort Lauderdale the 1st week of Feb and we have had very similar route....actually we sailed w/ or were anchored with several boat we have met (S/V Sunrise, "American" Tribe, Evolve, French Kiss, etc). We are currently in Jamaica and heading to the San Blas, Panama and then to the South Pacific...it would be great to meet up and maybe sail together as we have similar goals/sailing machines.
